How to share lab results with your patient?

BioMark Doctor platform is introducing a feature for clinicians to directly release patients' results, enhancing patient retention and promoting follow-up blood test rates

Result release feature

  • In addition to this, both the clinic and patient benefit from a closer relationship - the doctors are able to track the patient’s risk scores and other health parameters more closely (in addition to the lab results that they can already see), while the patient gets follow-up reminders to return for a blood test to check their progress.
  • This upgrade offers a secure and hassle-free method for clinics to share lab results, eliminating the need for insecure channels like email or WhatsApp (as many clients are using now).
  • This also helps get patients more engaged and involved in their own healthcare journey.

1.0 - Usage of the Feature

  • The “Send to Patient” will be an intuitive feature for clinicians to use - Users will see a “Send to Patient” button.
  • Clicking this then brings up a view where they can input the patient’s contact information (if not already present).

1.1 - Usage of the Feature - Sending Results

  • After “Send to Patient” is clicked, this view then comes up.
  • Doctor Platform can choose how to send the results to their patient (either through Email or SMS/WhatsApp)
  • Users will also see a preview of the precise message their patient will be getting.

1.2 - Usage of the Feature - Sending Results

Users also can optionally choose to remind patients to return for a follow-up appointment after X weeks - providing them a way to automate follow-up reminders to patients to return, thereby making patients stickier.

Introducing Hive - by BioMark

2.0 - Viewing Results on Hive

  • When the Doctor releases the results to the patient, the patient gets an access code (via email or SMS/WhatsApp).
  • As seen in the first screenshot, this should be inputted into the App.
  • After inputting the access code, the user then needs to verify their IC (as seen in the 2nd screenshot).

2.1 - Viewing Results on Hive

• On Hive, once the results are released, users will be able to see both atomic results, as well as the formal PDF results, through the app.

2.2 - Biomarker Results Trending

  • Users that have done repeat blood tests will be able to see the trend of their results on Hive.
  • Biomarker definitions are also available on the app - allowing users to understand their results better.

2.3 - Risk Scores

  • Using a patient’s lab results, as well as their other health parameters, Hive is able to compute health risk scores for patients.
  • These risk scores and lifestyle parameters (such as smoking history, family medical history, BMI, etc) are also then visible on the BioMark Doctor Platform.

FAQs

  • What is the purpose of adding this feature?

We're excited to introduce the result release feature, which builds upon our patient app, Hive - an integral part of our ecosystem that helps users easily access and understand their lab results.

With this new result release feature, we're now providing a convenient and secure method for clinics to effortlessly send results to their patients with just a few clicks. This way, patients can stay informed and engaged in their healthcare journey.

  • Will all results be available on the patient app?

All lab results that have been released to the patient by Doctors will be available on Hive.

The only way for a patient to access their lab results without their doctors explicitly releasing them are via Hive’s eKYC feature (i.e. identity verification), wherein relevant documents need to be provided by the user to confirm their identity.

  • How are lab results sent securely?

Lab results are initially sent to patients via an access code (a randomly generated value that might look something like “GBC-1234-5678”). Clinics can select whether to send this via email or SMS/WhatsApp, and they can likewise also specify the contact details of the patient.

After inputting this access code into the Hive app, the user also needs to confirm their IC number/Passport no. (this is the patient identifier used during data entry).

There are therefore 2 levels of verification a user needs to pass to access lab results:

  1. They need to input the correct access code that identifiers that lab result, which is a value only sent to them and
  1. They then also need to input their personal identifier, which is a value that should be known only to them.
  • How does this feature improve the clinician-patient relationship and increase follow-up blood test rates?

In addition to providing patients with a simple and user-friendly way to view lab results, Hive also allows patients to connect their wearables and medical devices (such as Smartwatches, Apple Health, Google fit, etc).

Hive also allows users to input their health parameters (family medical history, lifestyle information, etc), and uses this information, in conjunction with their lab results, to calculate various health risk scores. All of this information can be viewed by the clinic on the Doctor platform - empowering them with the ability to overlay a patient’s lab results with their other health parameters. Data generated by users via their devices is viewable by the clinics in real-time - allowing the clinic to monitor the patients closely.

Clinics may also automate reminders to the patient to return for a follow-up appointment. In addition to that, the Hive app will also remind patients to arrange a follow-up appointment via strategic push notifications.

Review patient results to enable patients to view their results

  1. Once results are completed, they will be available for viewing in your doctor platform. Patients will be able to see the status change to "Reviewed by doctor" but will not be able to view the results themselves.
  1. Before the results can be viewed by the patient, you will need to review them first and click the "Marked as Review" button, which will then change the status to "Ready for Viewing" and allow the results to be viewed from the patient app.
